Land Acknowledgement
We would like to acknowledge the sacred land on which Toronto operates. It has been a site of human activity for 15,000 years. This land is the territory of the Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee Nations. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which is an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. The Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant is one of many treaties that we, as settlers on this land, are bound to follow. Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory. We, including non-Indigenous people of colour, are settlers on this land, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and we would like to keep that fact at the forefront of our interactions, and our values in this community.

The Vision
THERE'S A VISION I'VE BEEN CRAFTING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS IN WHICH I'VE IMAGINED THE FUTURE OF EQUITY AT OUR COLLEGE. I WANT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU.
HERE IT IS:
MAKING SPACES FOR MARGINALIZED STUDENTS: IMPROVE EXISTING SPACES AND CARVE OUT NEW ONES. BATHROOMS WERE ONLY THE BEGINNING. PRAYER SPACES, SUPPORT CIRCLES FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE, WORKING WITH OTHER COMMISSIONS AND COLLEGES TO FOSTER TRANS INCLUSIVE SPACES AND EVENTS, A COLLECTIVE FOR RACIALIZED STUDENTS. THIS IS ONLY SOME OF WHAT'S NEXT.
UPLIFTING THEIR VOICES: USE OUR BUDGET TO COLLABORATE WITH AND COMPLEMENT EXISTING GRASSROOTS MOVEMENTS ON OUR CAMPUS. CENTRE THE VOICES OF MARGINALIZED STUDENTS IN CREATING EVENTS AND SPACES THAT CATER TO THEM. THE FIRST STEP IS TO LISTEN AND LEARN.
I WORK FOR YOU: CREATE MECHANISMS FOR CONSISTENT FEEDBACK, SUGGESTIONS, AND CRITICISMS, LIKE THIS GOOGLE FORM.
PUT THE "OUTREACH" BACK INTO EQUITY AND OUTREACH: CONNECT WITH GRASSROOTS INITIATIVES AND ORGANIZATIONS OFF CAMPUS AND FORM SUSTAINABLE, MEANINGFUL PARTNERSHIPS. CREATE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY OUTSIDE OF CAMPUS. STUDENTS THAT RESIST TOGETHER, STAY TOGETHER.
